A 16-year-old Arab Israeli boy from Tira was charged with attempting to carry out a terror attack against police officers after consulting the ChatGPT artificial intelligence chatbot. The indictment was filed in the Central District Juvenile Court in Lod, alleging the teen acted out of nationalist motives driven by anger over Israel's war in Gaza. According to prosecutors, the boy began planning the attack approximately two and a half months prior and used ChatGPT to explore possible methods and tactics for carrying out a terrorist act. On March 5, the teen performed a ritual shower, armed himself with a knife with a 10-centimeter blade, and set out on foot to the Tira police station. He forced his way into the police station compound where he encountered a Border Police officer, raised the knife, and shouted 'Allahu Akbar' and similar phrases before being subdued. The teen is charged with attempted aggravated assault under aggravated circumstances, defined in Israeli law as an act of terrorism. Prosecutors requested that he remain in custody until the conclusion of legal proceedings, noting the incident was part of 'lone wolf terrorism' which poses particular challenges for detection and prevention.
